IJmuiden Beach
IJmuiden is probably the closest quality kitesurfing beach to Amsterdam, making it incredibly popular with city dwellers. The beach offers consistent wind, especially from southwest to northwest, and decent waves when the wind picks up.
It works in all tides and has plenty of space, even on busy days. There's a large car park right by the beach, plus showers and cafés nearby. The northern end is generally less crowded if you prefer more room. Best in 15–25 knots, year-round.
Zandvoort
Just south of IJmuiden, Zandvoort offers a more resort-like atmosphere with excellent conditions. The beach is wide and long, with designated kite zones to keep swimmers safe.
It gets good waves and has a bit more protection from northerly winds than IJmuiden. The town has great infrastructure — beach clubs, restaurants, parking — and is easily reached by train from Amsterdam, perfect for a car-free day trip. Best in 15–30 knots of onshore wind.
Schellinkhout (Markermeer)

Muiderberg (IJmeer)
The closest flatwater spot to Amsterdam, Muiderberg is ideal when you want a quick session without much travel. Located on the IJmeer just east of the city, it offers shallow, flat water perfect for learning and progression.
A sandy beach with grassy areas makes setup easy. It can get crowded on good wind days given its proximity to the city, but there's usually room for everyone. Great in 12–20 knots and light-wind days.
Wijk aan Zee
